SKYPulse

VoIP Skype adaptor and line simulator for Pulse Dial Telephones.

This incredible device is available as software, a home construction kit, or as a ready built unit

This is a VoIP telephone adaptor which gives you a proper phone line on your computer and allows you to make real telephone calls through Skype.

“That’s nothing new” I hear you say, and you’re would be right except this unique VoIP adaptor simulates both ‘vintage’ and modern telephone lines!!.

Vintage and collectable telephones will not work well on other Skype adaptors because the adaptors use only DTMF tone dialling and often work at low line voltage..Old phones use pulse (loop disconnect or LD) dialling on 50V lines so I designed this unit with these phones in mind. There is a bonus though; most modern phones also support LD pulse dialling, usually enabled with a simple switch on the base of the phone. So you can also use this unit with most modern telephones too - the best of both worlds!!

Is this a real VoIP telephone adaptor ?

This is a real VoIP phone adaptor that can be used day to day to directly dial telephone numbers or Skype users all over the world using a standard telephone. Your phone will ring when you receive an incoming Skype call on your computer, just as if it was on a normal phone line, with a choice of British or American ringing pattern (cadence). People call you using your Skype name or your “Skype IN” telephone number. When your phone rings you just pick up the receiver and answer the call in the normal way. To make a call, just pick up the receiver and you’ll immediately hear a standard dial tone. Dial your number as you would on any phone line, even if your phone has a vintage rotary dialler, and it will be routed through Skype automatically. You can even set up shorter ‘speed-dial’ numbers to save time, and you can use the letters around your dial to spell out peoples names if your phone has them.

What else does it do ?

You can use this unit as a modern VoIP adaptor but this adaptor is also a simulator. You can set it up for a vintage dial-tone and messages. You can allocate PC audio recordings to phone numbers such as 16 to play your favourite song like “dial-a-disc”. The software also includes a working simulation of the old UK “speaking clock” which you can assign to any number such as 8081 or 846 (remember TIM ?). I purposely designed this unit to enable the use of vintage phones on VoIP and also to re-create the telephone experience of the 1960’s / 1970’s. Using the simulator software the unit can be used by movie makers to ring vintage telephones and playback prerecorded audio re-creating vintage scenes.

Uniquely simple design

The design was made in such a way that it uses the minimum of components. In fact the basic circuit uses just three transistors and no IC’s or surface mount components making it a very easy project for the electronics enthusiast to build for themselves. In this age of microchips and cheap rubbish from China, haven't you just been itching for a really simple electronic project that you can build, but one that does something really useful?

Take a look at my videos to see my own unit in action. I think you’ll love it and it will impress your friends, especially if you’ve built it yourself.

Ideal Gift

This also makes the ideal gift for telephone collector or retro enthusiast, the gadget freak or electronics hobbyist, but also for anyone who wants to use a normal telephone on Skype with their computer.
